Los Angeles Notorious Housing Project; Jordon Downs is Getting a Community Lift~

1965 Watts Riots occurred as a results of years of benign neglect the community had suffered from mistreatment by local police force Los Angeles Police Department, massive discriminatory housing practices, unfair employment hiring, and low-performing school systems.

Jordan Downs is a 700-unit public housing complex in Watts, Los Angeles, California. Opened in 1944 built for "War Workers" during World War II. During World War II, the Jordon Downs area had been used for various reasons serving the local surrounding communities of Watts, South Gate, and Lynwood suppling vegetables and other fresh produce.

By 1950's two things happened; War veterans moved out and purchase homes. secondly, HACLA converted the housing into public housing also know as "Projects." and for more than three decades the resident population made up of close to 100% Black.
Watts over the past decades has undergone a community-wide transformation. The community as a whole demand that Los Angeles local City and County elected officials ensure safety and justice in Watts and surrounding communities. designed a community farm for local residents to enjoy "Green Space," and learn more about urban farming. By contributing to the local infrastructure of the community Mudtown Farm Watts provided safe space for the Watts residents to grow local grown produce.
Nevertheless, 15 District Councilmember, Tim McOsker, Mayor Karen Bass, who has received $11 million for the U.S. Department of Interior have partnered with the Land and Water Conservation Fund Outdoor Recreation Legacy Partnership Program who has sponsored $254 million into 54 projects across 24 states; to fostered creative community designed to promote and revitalize healthy Green Space for a new park complex in Watts.

This transformative experience for Watts families will encourage and empower a community that longs for healing and restoration. The project will also create living space of1,569 new affordable housing units, green space, soccer field, basketball courts, walking paths for those who enjoys exercising, and a community pool, and nine acres of park space.
The development, goal is to create safety, healing, empowerment, and justice in a community that for more than five decades has suffered from the ills of society. Whether it's lace of access to adequate resources, decent education, generational poverty, and the lost of manufacturing jobs in Los Angeles.
