Black Like Me, first published in 1961, is a nonfiction book by journalist John Howard Griffin recounting his journey in the Deep South of the United States, at a time when African Americans lived under racial segregation. He is best known for his 1959 project to temporarily pass as a black man and journey through the Deep South in order to see life and segregation from the other side of the color line first-hand.

Pudd'nhead Wilson is Mark Twain's satirical novel about two babies, one white and one light-skinned Black, switched at birth by a slave mother (Roxy) to save her son (Chambers) from slavery, leading to the Black child being raised as a spoiled white heir ("Tom") and the white child as a slave. The story follows their reversed lives and a murder mystery where the eccentric lawyer David "Pudd'nhead" Wilson, mocked for his fingerprint hobby, ultimately uses his scientific methods to expose the truth and reveal the true identities in a dramatic courtroom trial, highlighting themes of race, identity, and slavery in the antebellum South.
